I know, I know…I’m late, but…this is one of my favourite oak trees in Blekinge – or was. This spring we passed the mansion by car and found that the magnificent oak was broken and gone. It has been there since I was very young and last year it still had some fresh leaves. The many storms last autumn must have been too much for this old friend.
Great Click! Too sad for the old oak tree.
Superb capture!
Thank you – and yes, I miss that old tree.
Some really majestic trees you have capture. And they stand beautifully against the old timbered house. Indeed sad to know that the oak is not there any more.
Somehow they were joined never to be separated…at least that’s the way I feel because I’ve had that kind of relationship with it. I guess certain combinations made from our younger years really make you hurt inside when they are not the same combinations anymore.
A beautiful shot. The tree looks magnificent even in its death throes!
Thank you, Madhu. but, it was sad to see it gone.
Oh dear. The tree and the house look like best friends in the photo. So sad that it’s tumbled down now. It sure looks magnificent and I think it made many people who looked at it smile for a bit 🙂
Yes, I believe they were best friends.
It must have been a great age. Sad, but good to see some other healthy looking trees in the background.
Yes, they say oaks grow for three hundred years, stand still for three hundred years and die for three hundred years. No wonder they are beautiful!
No wonder!
Is it not springing again from the base, Ann-Christine ?
Well, I could not get close enough this time as I never left the car. But maybe it is!
Nous ne pouvons qu’espérer … 🙂
Reviving my French – oui, ce’st ca.
See how kind I am ? – I stretched your brain for you. 😀
”Grin” ;-))
What a grand old tree – how sad it is no more.
Yes. It must have been very old.
It’s tragic, I imagine that oak tree must be perhaps 150 years old. (Do you know the reason for the death?)
I’m afraid I don’t know why, but it must have been very old. They say oak trees grow for 300 years, stand still for another 300 and die for 300 years.
I tried to calculate the width and figured approx. 150 y.o.
I have an Oak that is 250 y.o near my home and is almost double the width. I love trees. Thank you! 🙂
A splendid tree, I love your photo!
Thank you very much – and splendid it once was!
Such a wonderful tree! thanks for playing.
My pleasure, Cee.
such a sad demise but still standing – near that lovely old house
Yes, it’s truly sad. The house you see is the garden keeper’s house – very beautiful. The great mansion is behind it.
What a majestic tree! Superb capture, Leya!
Amy, thank you – but sorry it isn’t anymore.
Leaves or no leaves….it’s an interesting looking tree.
Looks like it is doing a stretch with its many arms!
It is – and from another angle it’s totally bent over, leaning towards the younger trees.
