It was a great surprise and a great pleasure to visit Gdansk in Poland this weekend. The city centre has been totally renovated and built up from the ruins of WWII. A fantasy of soft pastels. Just in time for Cee’s challenge!

Vilka färger!
😉
I would love to visit! Wonderful foto!
A wonderful city!
Lovely images! What a beautiful place.
It really was a positive surprise to me. I had no idea.
So beautiful, and perfect for the challenge, Ann Christine. 🙂
And they are so well fitting in their old surroundings. Sometimes restoration goes too far, but these ones felt genuine.

Thank you!
Vilka hus. Jag har alltid velat åka till Budapest för att gå där med kameran och strosa bland husen, men det var ju vackert i Gdansk också 😀
Visst är det! Budapest är också vackert, och trevliga människor och god mat!
A pleasure to look at your photos too.
The houses are like ice creams…
So true.
Beautiful colours, Ann-Christine – and possibly representative of Swedish tastes ? Very un-Italian, for instance. 😀
Very un-italian…but also very European. Those colours are rarely used in architecture in Sweden!
Oh ! – indeed ? Then the usual colours are simply … stone ?
Ordinary stone in natural colours, yes. But our houses are more often in yellow or red brick, or whitewashed. Wooden houses are red or yellow mostly.
I wonder why … These traditions simply – happen, eh, Ann-Christine ? 🙂
I think so. The beauty of wooden houses make them more wanted again, nowadays, since new methods of keeping them freshly painted are introduced. There was of course a time when cities like Stockholm and others were burned down in great fires, and after that, stone was the only option…
It’s so hard for we new-worlders to grasp that concept of centuries of tradition …
It’s what took Stringer and I to Europe every time – but, alas !, never to Scandinavia. You can’t do everything …
No…not everything, but we can travel here, via Internet. I would have loved Australia too – but I don’t think that will come true. If I ever get there, I’d love to have a drink with you. I think that might just be a good reason to go!
And I ENTIRELY agree, m’dear ! – such fun we would have … 😀
WE most certainly WOULD! In fact I’m laughing just thinking of it. Never say never…
Wow, so pretty and intricate
They remind me of sweet cakes…or ice cream.
Beautiful, Leya! Great photos of the architecture.
A truly lovely restored city!
Wonderful entry for this week’s theme. Thanks for playing.
My pleasure, Cee!
